Does your child like to draw? My daughter wakes up and wants to draw and color every single day! Recently I was approached by the founder of Guide Dots to try out their new subscription based art kit and I immediately said yes!
Guide Dots has two different starter kit options, one for ages 4-6 and one for ages 7-9. We got the first one since Adalyn is 6 1/2 years old and this would be a new concept for her to try.
Our “Discover Art” starter kit (ages 4-6) came beautifully packaged and included the following items:
- 1 Light Tablet
- 6 Guide Dots Drawing Rolls (2 sent each month)
- 9 Dual Tip Markers
- 1 Box Chalk Pastels
- 1 kneadable eraser
- 1 binder clip
- 2 elastic bands
They also offer an “Art Confidence” starter kit for ages 7-9 that includes all of the items above as well as:
- 1 watercolor set
- 1 watercolor paper pad
- 1 box oil pastels
(*Your child will also need a laptop or tablet with internet access as well as a pencil and some sheets of white paper, but these are not included)
To get started, you use the information on the “Welcome” email that is sent to you after purchase to login to the Guide Dots website to access their instructional videos.
Ms. Cindra, Guide Dots founder, is an experienced art teacher and her love for art and teaching is very apparent in her instructional videos .
Adalyn loved learning how to create her own masterpiece in the comfort of her own home with the help of Ms. Cindra. Her personality and teaching style is perfect for children of a variety of ages and experience levels.
The videos walk your child through drawing a specific art project, step by step. They can work at their own pace without any pressure. Adalyn thrived with this kind of teaching style and really enjoyed it.
Each starter kit comes with two reusable projects for them to work on. Then they will receive two more projects monthly for the next two months. You can choose to continue the subscription if you so choose. Their are options to extend it for a month, 3 months, 6 months or for an entire year.
The starter kits retail for $89.99 for “Discover Art” (ages 4-6) and $109.99 for “Art Confidence” (ages 7-9). This cost includes the cost of the starter kit as well as two more months of projects (for a total of three months). The high-quality art supplies should last for years if properly taken care of, so the investment is very reasonable.
