First Day of School

Well, here we are…the first day of kindergarten.  How the heck did we get here so fast? Where did that tiny little squishy newborn baby they set on my chest go?  I stare at her and see this tall, beautiful, free-spirited and kind-hearted little girl and I can’t believe how fast she’s grown.

This morning she held hands with her dad as we walked up to her school.  I walked behind them carrying Charlotte, knowing that in less than 4 years we will be making this same walk with her…a thought I can hardly bear.  Adalyn walked boldly into her school and led us to her class.  She hung up her backpack and put her lunchbox away all by herself.  She gave one of her new friends she met last night at meet the teacher a hug & told her that they were going to meet more new friends today and needed to include everyone (praise God she actually listened last night when I talked to her about this) and she settled into her seat at her desk.

First day of school

There we were…it was time…time to walk away and leave her in the loving care of her new teacher in her new school.  I turned back to watch her for a few moments and she never looked back at me.  We had prepared her for this moment and she was ready.  Ready to start spreading her tiny wings to fly.  It is such a bittersweet day.  I am so proud of her and the amazing little girl she is and the woman she will become.  God has a purpose and a plan for her life and today we got to see the start of her journey, which is a humbling and beautiful experience.

I love you Adalyn and I can’t wait to hear all about your first day!

“Until you spread your wings, you will have no idea how far you can fly.”
